The John Mayer Face

Commence music video...
Sometimes it's so much like a song I feel cliché even looking on. They tread lightly as the floors fall out beneath them and wear this stupid grin the entire time. I don’t think they have any idea on the outside their joy is showing. That is precisely what I have always been envious of music for. It has a way of tangling people up so far in creativity and truth that they forget they are more than a set of ears. Music makes you forget about your arms, your face, how you look—music just makes you believe in another day. Here we live in a place where the music never stops and we never wake up.

We've all experienced that scene. You've especially seen it if you look at John Mayer. Most of the time if you watch his videos he looks like he is in literal pain. We can't forget Tyler Ward either, who matches him in bizzare facial expressions. But what is it that allows these artists to look so crazy but manage to be totally convincing at the same time? They mean it. They might look stupid but it works because in that moment--who cares if there face is contorted, or they have a weird twitch on the down beat.?The point is they feel it. It's like Adele says, "I make music for ears, not eyes."

This gives us respect for the moshers of the world, or those who might rock to the drum a little differently. Whatever face or dance you represent-- do just that. Represent it, maybe one day that deep man voice you have will pay off like it did for Tracy Chapman. Everytime we hear "Fast Car", we know we are listening to a heart. Sure we learn to look graceful on stage and in life, but most of the time-- I think we should just put our John Mayer face on. It might look ridiculous, but it's sincere.

"If you believe in magic, don't bother to choose/ If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues
Just go and listen/It'll start with a smile
It won't wipe off your face no matter how hard you try/Your feet start tapping
And you can't seem to find/ How you got there
So just blow your mind." -The Lovin Spoonful
